Skin cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the epidermis, caused by mutations triggered by unrepaired DNA damage. Alfa Cytology is a world leader in the research of cancer. With our extensive experience and advanced platform, we can provide the best solutions for skin cancer.
Introduction to Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. Almost all skin cancers can be effectively treated if caught early. The two main causes of skin cancer are the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays (UV) and the use of UV tanning beds. There are two main types of skin cancer, non-melanoma skin cancer and melanoma skin cancer. The two main types of non-melanoma skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).
Therapy Development for Skin Cancer
The main therapy for skin cancer is surgery. However, some people may not be able to undergo surgery or may need other therapies after surgery, such as radiation therapy, immunotherapy, photodynamic therapy, and chemotherapy. The choice of method mainly depends on the stage or severity of the cancer. Still, other factors are also important, such as the body's overall health status and skin function and certain characteristics of the cancer itself. There are already companies developing targeted drugs and immunotherapies for skin cancer.
