What is Cervical Cancer?
A malignant tumor located in the cervix represents cervical cancer and ranks as one of the most prevalent cancers among women. The development of cervical cancer stems from irregular alterations in cervical epithelial cells which have a strong association with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection responsible for more than 90% of cases. The disease advances through stages starting with normal cells which transform into precancerous lesions before becoming invasive cancer. Early marriage and having multiple sexual partners as well as smoking habits together with weakened immune systems further increase the risk levels.
